Punjab's Industries and Commerce Minister, Sanjeev Arora, addressed the escalating problem of stray dogs, demanding immediate, coordinated efforts from municipal commissioners and additional deputy commissioners. His concerns focus on public safety and health, given the rise in dog bites and attacks.
Arora identified the unchecked growth in the stray dog population as a result of insufficient sterilization and poor waste management, with open garbage dumps offering abundant food sources. His directives emphasize humane sterilization programs, rabies vaccinations, and enhanced waste management as critical measures to manage the issue.
Continuous monitoring and cooperation with local bodies, veterinary services, and NGOs were highlighted, alongside setting up dedicated teams for regular review and accountability. Arora has urged all involved parties to report on actions taken within a week, as the government aims to establish safe and hygienic urban areas.
