A violent clash erupted between doctors and patients' attendants at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Aligarh late Tuesday night, resulting in injuries to at least four people, including a resident doctor, according to police reports. The altercation began with a disagreement between a resident doctor and some patients' attendants, later escalating as more doctors joined in.
The Resident Doctors' Association has since declared an indefinite strike, causing significant disruption of emergency services at the hospital's trauma center. This incident marks the second occurrence of similar violence at the facility within two weeks. The RDA demands strict actions against involved patients' attendants and alleged negligence by university security staff.
Both sides have different accounts of the incident, with Areeb, a patient's family member, alleging that improper conduct by a doctor led to the situation. Senior university officials, including AMU Proctor Naved Khan, are currently reviewing the event, and police investigations are underway following complaints from both parties.
