A dramatic incident in Maharashtra's Hingoli district has left a family mourning the loss of an unborn child. Relatives claim a government ambulance delay, allegedly due to a diesel shortage, was the cause. The family waited nearly two hours as the expectant mother suffered labor pains at Jawala Bazar.
This delay forced the family to pool resources and hire a private vehicle to transport her to the Government Medical College in Hingoli. Despite efforts to save the child with a C-section, the infant could not be saved. The outcry from citizens has put pressure on officials to investigate the alleged shortcomings in emergency healthcare.
State Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar, responding to public outrage, has assured an investigation into the matter. He emphasized that budget provisions for ambulance fuel are in place, and any failure in infrastructure utilization will be scrutinized. The incident has sparked questions over accountability, with citizens venting frustration on social media about rural healthcare inadequacies.
NCP (SP) women's wing state president Rohini Khadse criticized the administration, questioning who should be held responsible for the tragedy. The issue of fuel shortages in ambulances has come to the forefront, challenging official claims of ample resources.
