Israel is intensifying its environmental efforts, aiming for zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has undertaken professional evaluations to establish renewable energy targets for 2035, 2040, and 2050. This initiative aligns with the target of achieving 30% renewable energy by 2030.
The policy principles, set by the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, will guide the implementation of these goals following an expert review by the Electricity Authority and the ministry. This approach emphasizes Israel's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring energy security, affordability, and independence. The goals also consider renewable energy standards in other OECD countries.
The Ministry has requested the Electricity Authority's input on achieving 35%, 40%, and 45% electricity production from renewable sources by 2035. Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Eli Cohen emphasized that such targets are vital for improving environmental quality through green energy and enhancing energy security by diversifying electricity production. Alongside the Electricity Authority, the ministry plans to promote large solar farms and facilitate renewable energy production in residential areas.
