President Joe Biden communicated with former President Donald Trump in the aftermath of a shooting incident at Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, CNN reported, referencing the White House. Biden also spoke with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy. According to a White House official, Biden will be returning to Washington, D.C., cutting short his weekend stay in Delaware. Initially, Biden was scheduled to stay in Delaware until Monday before his planned travel to Texas for events.

White House officials released a statement saying, 'Tonight, the President is returning to Washington, DC. Tomorrow morning at the White House, he will receive an updated briefing from homeland security and law enforcement officials.' Donald Trump was on stage at a campaign rally in Butler when gunfire erupted, prompting Secret Service agents to storm the stage. Agents quickly surrounded Trump and escorted him off the stage. Blood was reportedly visible on his face.

Trump raised his fist toward the crowd as law enforcement led him away. The Secret Service confirmed that one spectator was killed and another critically injured in the incident, which is under investigation. Trump reported that a bullet pierced the upper part of his ear. Biden, from Delaware, condemned the attack, calling it 'sick' and underscored the need for national unity to prevent such violence. He emphasized, 'We cannot allow this to be happening. We cannot condone this.'

The FBI has identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. An active investigation is ongoing, and the FBI encourages anyone with information to submit photos or videos online at FBI.gov/butler or call 1-800-CALL-FBI. Special Agent Kevin Rojek from the Pittsburgh office noted that it was 'surprising' the gunman fired multiple shots during the rally.

Authorities are awaiting the results of a detailed investigation into how the gunman accessed the location and managed to fire shots. Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police said the investigation would help identify any security lapses and improvements for future events. The FBI Pittsburgh Field Office is leading the investigation, with crisis response team members and evidence response technicians involved.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed Trump has left the Butler area and expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their quick response. Shapiro updated that Trump is fine and extended prayers to the victims. He reiterated the need for unity and respect in the wake of the shocking event.
