Tanzanian IPU President Visits India, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

In a significant diplomatic engagement, Dr. Tulia Ackson, the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly, met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Parliament House Complex on Tuesday. Birla emphasized the long-standing and amicable relationship between India and Tanzania, expressing hope that the visit would bolster bilateral connections.
During the meeting, Birla underscored the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation and proposed the establishment of Zonal Training Centres for Parliamentary Studies, Training, and Capacity Building. According to Birla, such initiatives would support democratic institutions globally. He also shared India's efforts to mainstream women through historic legislations like the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Vidheyak.'
Birla further conveyed his thoughts on strengthening cooperation between the Indian Parliament and IPU, hoping that through IPU, democratic institutions worldwide would become more meaningful. He extended a warm welcome to the Tanzanian delegation and reflected on their brief interaction at the BRICS Conference. Dr. Ackson's visit coincides with the Parliament's Budget Session, where critical financial proposals are reviewed. Birla highlighted India's electoral process and the new Parliament building as symbols of democracy and cultural heritage.
