Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the Monsoon session of Lok Sabha to discuss the latest political developments in Bangladesh, according to Congress sources. Earlier in the day, EAM Jaishankar had briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the current situation in Dhaka.
Congress MP Manish Tewari described the situation in Bangladesh as sensitive and evolving, calling for a government statement in Parliament. 'The situation in Bangladesh is sensitive. It's an evolving situation. I hope that the Government will address this issue in both Houses of Parliament tomorrow,' Tewari stated.
Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram emphasized the unity of all political parties in supporting the Indian government's efforts to prioritize national interests. 'We need to see how the current situation will impact our border security and ensure the safety of Indian citizens in Bangladesh. Preventing an influx of refugees is also crucial,' Chidambaram said.
Indigo Airlines announced flight cancellations for tomorrow due to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh. 'In view of the situation in Dhaka, we regret to inform that all flights scheduled for tomorrow have been cancelled. We understand the significant inconvenience this may cause,' the airline stated.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived at the Hindon Air Base near New Delhi on a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft after resigning on Monday morning. It remains unclear whether she will stay in Delhi or move to another location, with some reports suggesting a potential relocation to London.
