US President Joe Biden on Wednesday expressed serious doubts about a peaceful transfer of power if Republican Donald Trump loses in the forthcoming presidential election. Speaking in an interview with CBS News, Biden stated, "If Trump loses, I'm not confident at all."
The interview, conducted at the White House and scheduled to air on August 11, touched on Biden's decision to withdraw from the presidential race, his views on American democracy, and his outlook on the country. CBS News reported that Biden's concerns stem from Trump's rhetoric implying that the only way he would lose is if the election is 'stolen from him.'
Biden elaborated, "He means what he says. We don't take him seriously. He means it, all the stuff about, 'If we lose, there'll be a bloodbath, it'll have to be a stolen election.'" This 'bloodbath' comment, according to CNN, referred to the potential fallout in the US auto industry and the country if Trump lost. In response, Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign accused Trump of inciting political violence.
Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized her campaign's focus on issues like affordable housing, child care, and healthcare, describing the race as a "fight for our future." At her first rally with running mate Tim Walz, she stated, "Look what they're trying to do now in the local election districts where people count the votes, or putting people in place in states that they're going to count the votes, right?"
