Russian Attack on Poltava Claims 53 Lives, Hundreds Injured

The death toll from the Russian attack on Poltava has risen to 53 after another body was recovered from the rubble, according to the State Emergency Service. The devastating strike also left 298 people injured, Kyiv Independent reported. Notably, the Russian strike targeted an educational institution and a nearby hospital, partially destroying a telecommunications institute's building.
"The rescuers worked all night, organised into shifts," said State Emergency Service spokesperson Oleksandr Khoruzhnyi on national television, as per Kyiv Independent. The State Emergency Service confirmed that 25 people were rescued, including 11 trapped under debris. As of 10:30 am on September 4, five people may still be trapped.
In the meantime, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported Russian strikes on Lviv and Kryvyi Rih via his X handle. "Russian missiles against our cities and people. The strike on Lviv killed 5 people, including a 14-year-old girl. More than 30 people were injured. Residential buildings, schools, and medical facilities were damaged," he said. Zelenskyy added that the attack on Kryvyi Rih injured 5 people, damaging homes and civilian infrastructure. Emergency services are on-site providing assistance to the injured.
Ukraine has been under siege since Russia's full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022.
