GCNS 2023: Scholars Meet in New Delhi to Discuss 'The Art of Power in Zhongnanhai'

The Organisation for Research on China and Asia (ORCA) recently held the second Global Conference on New Sinology (GCNS) in New Delhi. The two-day event, themed 'The Art of Power in Zhongnanhai,' attracted scholars, government officials, and civil society members from countries including the USA, China, and India.

The event featured over 50 distinguished speakers covering topics from China's elite party politics, military modernization under Xi Jinping, economic challenges, and foreign policy, with a particular focus on China-India relations. Keynote speaker Lt Gen S L Narasimhan provided an in-depth analysis of the modernisation of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Sessions included discussions on the Chinese Communist Party's (CPC) power dynamics, economic strategy, and foreign policies like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Notable speakers such as Dr Guoguang Wu and Dr Joseph Torigian offered insights into China's domestic and international strategies. Organised by ORCA and supported by Shiv Nadar University and the Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF), the conference is one of India's largest focused on China studies.
