Strengthening Ties: US and India on Strategic Path Ahead of Modi's Visit
US Congressman Rich McCormick and Georgia State Rep. Michael Cheokas expressed strong support for enhanced US-India cooperation. They highlighted India's strategic importance, potential AUKUS expansion, trade relations, and global challenges. Prime Minister Modi's visit to the US aims to bolster economic and strategic partnerships under President Trump's leadership.

US Congressman Rich McCormick, co-chair of the India Caucus, emphasized the burgeoning relationship between the United States and India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for a visit to Washington. McCormick endorsed deeper cooperation, citing India's strategic significance and discussions on trade, global concerns, and the potential expansion of the AUKUS security alliance.
Highlighting the importance of AUKUS, McCormick stated, "Although India isn't currently part of AUKUS, expanding it to include India would fortify our alliance." He underscored the benefits of US-India trade relations, noting, "There's no significant trade deficit, which aligns with our commitment to free trade. India could manufacture products currently sourced from China, presenting a strategic advantage."
Addressing global issues, McCormick remarked on India's reselling of Russian oil to Europe, fueling conflict. He advocated for aligning with "the correct side of history" regarding Russia's actions in Ukraine. Reflecting on India's potential, he noted its economic and innovative capabilities, lauding India's recent space accomplishments as a testament to its growth. Meanwhile, Georgia State Representative Michael Cheokas praised PM Modi's imminent visit, predicting stronger economic ties under President Trump's pro-business leadership.
