In a decisive move against escalating drug use on campus, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday prohibited all direct food and courier deliveries to students across federal educational institutions. Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas, acknowledging the increasing misuse of delivery services for narcotics trafficking, issued this order with immediate effect.

The ruling responded to a petition from Lakki Foundation, a civil society group sounding alarms over rising student drug addiction in Islamabad. Justice Minhas cautioned educational institutions permitting such deliveries, threatening investigations and strict penalties for non-compliance.

Amid heightened scrutiny, the Islamabad police acknowledged past negligence in downplaying drug issues, apologizing for misplaced priorities emphasizing VIP security over student safety. Enhanced surveillance efforts, however, have already resulted in 577 drug-related cases since 2019. Justice Minhas underscored the urgent need for enforcement and educational reforms ahead of the upcoming hearing on May 28.
