Report: Knee sprain not serious for Celtics G Irving
The sprained right knee that forced Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving from Saturday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers is not considered serious and his status is day-to-day, ESPN reported Sunday. Irving was playing defense when the injury occurred with about five minutes remaining in the first half. He left the game with 2:28 to play in the second quarter and Boston holding a comfortable 20-point lead.
The Clippers ultimately overcame a 28-point deficit, one of multiple rallies from at least 20 points down on their current road trip, to earn a 123-112 victory. They outscored the Celtics 75-44 after Irving departed. The veteran guard had an MRI on Sunday and it was determined that the injury was not considered serious. The Celtics next take the court Tuesday at Philadelphia.
Irving, 26, is averaging 23.6 points, 6.9 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 47 games (all starts) this season. Boston forward Marcus Morris was frustrated following Saturday's defeat.
"For us to be a championship team, this (stuff) has to change," Morris said. "We have to genuinely want to win. That has to be the first goal. Whatever it takes, I'm with it. If you want to take me out of the lineup and get some juice in it, I'm with it. But I'm trying to win. That's the goal. The trade deadline's over." --Field Level Media
