In a significant move to bolster defense ties, India and Italy have unveiled a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026-27. The announcement came during a high-level meeting between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in New Delhi.
The comprehensive framework aims to enhance military engagement and maritime cooperation, reflecting the longstanding partnership between two ancient maritime nations. The plan underscores a shared commitment to peace and stability, with a particular focus on advancing Information Exchange through the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region in Gurugram.
Discussing a gamut of regional and global issues, the two defense chiefs also explored opportunities for increased collaboration under India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme and Italy's defense initiatives. Crosetto's maiden visit to India included a tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial and receiving a Tri-Service Guard of Honour.
