Uber has officially launched its services in Nepal, marking the Himalayan nation as its 11th territory within the Asia-Pacific region. This debut arrives after more than a decade of operations in the South Asian market, bringing the popular app-based cab service to a new audience.
The launch introduces Uber Go and Uber Comfort for four-wheelers, alongside Uber Bike for two-wheeler commutes. According to Dominic Taylor, Regional General Manager, Rides, Asia Pacific, the company is enthusiastic about its prospects in Nepal, noting the early sign-ups of over two thousand drivers. Taylor emphasized Uber's advantage in catering to tourists familiar with the service.
The strategic launch includes Uber Bike, a motorcycle service tailored for navigating congested urban areas. For car rides, Uber Go presents an economical option, while Uber Comfort offers a premium experience. Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Chelan Bliss from the US Embassy highlighted the launch as a significant milestone, reflecting confidence in Nepal's digital progression and economic potential.
