Warriors' Thompson to get MRI on sore right knee

Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson will not play Saturday night at Philadelphia because of a sore right knee and will have an MRI exam when the team gets back to Northern California on Sunday. Thompson, who is averaging 22.0 points per game this season, was injured during Thursday's defeat at Orlando, but insists that the issue is nothing to worry about.

"I'm sore but I'll be all right," Thompson said, according to ESPN. "I don't think it's anything serious, but it's definitely better (to) take the right precautions for sure." Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said before Saturday's game that he wanted to be careful with the injury.

"He hurt it during the game (Thursday) when he banged his knee on the floor and it didn't really hurt him until (Friday) morning," Kerr said. "It's inflamed enough where it doesn't make sense to play him (Saturday) night and our docs will check him out when we get back (home)." The Warriors are expected to start Alfonzo McKinnie in Thompson's place. It will be McKinnie's third start of the season.

Golden State will also be without forward Kevon Looney, who has right pelvic soreness. The Warriors are coming off back-to-back defeats at Miami and Orlando and have dropped three of their last four games.
