Angolan Ambassador summons for African nations to participate in FAO Fund in June

Angolan Ambassador Florêncio de Almeida has recently called on African countries to participate actively in the donor conference of the FAO's African Solidarity Trust Fund (FFSA), on June 11 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

Florêncio de Almeida, Angola's representative to the United Nations Agencies in Rome (FAO, IFAD and WFP) made the appeal during his fare farewell speech. During a Plenary meeting, that gathered the African Group Ambassadors, the Angolan diplomat thanked the colleagues for assistance extended to him during his mission.

The Angolan diplomat, who still heads the FFSA's Steering Committee, said that the noble objective of the FFSA "is to help solve the problem of food insecurity on the continent. The objective is also to reinforces the call for all our countries to be represented at the highest level in this forum, supported by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema of Equatorial Guinea, one of the largest contributors.

 The African Solidarity Trust Fund was created in 2012 by the FAO regional conference for Africa in Brazzaville and is aimed to support national and regional initiatives to eliminate hunger on the African continent. It has already provided 38 of the 40 million dollars to finance 18 projects in 41 countries.

Florêncio de Almeida, now appointed Angola's ambassador to Brazil, was awarded a medal of merit by FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva last March in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the growth of this Agency of the United Nations.

In addition to a permanent representative to the Agencies of the Nations in Rome, Florencio de Almeida was also the ambassador of Angola in the Italian, Malta and San Marino.
