An FIR has been lodged against four policemen including a sub-inspector in connection with the death here of a 20-year-old man whose family claimed that they were involved in the ''killing'', officials said on Tuesday.

The case against SI Akhilesh Singh and three constables -- Jitendra, Danish and Surendra -- was registered based on the complaint filed by the relatives of the victim, Ankush Singh, and investigations are on, said Vipul Kumar Srivastava, Additional Superintendent of Police.

The victim's family claimed that Ankush Singh was driving a wood-laden tractor-trolley when these policemen chased and caught him near a tractor agency and started pressuring him to take the vehicle to Kotwali.

The family claimed that the police personnel said they were under pressure from the inspector concerned to take the tractor to Kotwali and then constable Danish started driving it and made Ankush Singh sit on the bonnet. Later, the constable pushed him from the tractor and he got crushed and died, the family alleged.

After getting information about the incident, the relatives of Ankush Singh reached the spot and took him to the CHC where the doctors declared him dead. The relatives created a ruckus and started a protest by placing the body at Patel Chowk in Kotwali area.

Kadipur Circle Officer (CO) Shivam Mishra reached the spot with a police team and talked to the family members but they remained adamant on filing a case of murder against the accused police personnel, police said.

The forces of Karaundi Kalan, Chanda, Lambhua, Motigarpur, Dostpur, Akhandnagar, Jaisinghpur police stations were called.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vipul Srivastava himself reached the spot after one o'clock in the night and listened to the family members and assured them that action would be taken against the police personnel if they are found guilty, police said.

The family members have given a complaint against the four police personnel based on which a case has been registered, the Additional SP added.
