Delhi Police's Special Cell has arrested two men with a dozen pistols and ammunition in their possession, meant to be supplied to gangsters in the city and its neighbourhood, a senior officer said on Friday.

Mohammad Aziz, 39, and Arshad Khan, 30, had been procuring illicit pistols from Madhya Pradesh and supplying them to Delhi and neighbouring regions, including western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for the last two years, they said.

They supplied consignments to several gangsters including members of Hashim Baba gang, police said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar, the arrests were made Wednesday on the basis of a tip-off that two gun suppliers will be coming to a certain location in the city.

''Our team laid a trap near Sarai Kale Khan Bus Terminal from where we apprehended two key members of an arms syndicate -- Mohammad Aziz and Arshad Khan, both residents of Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh – along with 12 illicit pistols of .32 bore,'' Kumar said.

They had come to Delhi to deliver the consignment to an associate of Rashid Cablewala on the direction of Dinesh, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, from whom they procure illegal weapons, he said.

''Illicit pistols are procured from Dinesh for Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per piece and sold to criminals of Delhi-NCR, UP West and Rajasthan for Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 per pistol,'' Kumar added.
