Top US lawmakers reach deal to avert government shutdown -statement

U.S. congressional leaders said on Wednesday they had reached a deal to advance appropriations bills in March for fiscal year 2024, avoiding a possible government shutdown.

The agreement would provide temporary funding to avert the shutdown, Democratic and Republican leaders including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a joint statement.
