President Ruto Concludes U.S. Visit with Emphasis on Strengthening Bilateral Ties

In Washington, D.C., President Ruto will meet Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson and engage with Senate leadership led by Majority Leader Charles Schumer.

President William Ruto has concluded the initial phase of his State Visit to the United States, calling for enhanced private and public sector partnerships. His tour, which began in Atlanta, Georgia, included high-profile meetings and significant investment announcements.

In Washington, D.C., President Ruto will meet Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson and engage with Senate leadership led by Majority Leader Charles Schumer. He is also scheduled to address the Black Caucus at the Library of Congress before his anticipated visit to the White House on Thursday.

The streets of Washington, D.C. were adorned with American and Kenyan flags, reflecting the significance of this State Visit.

During his address to U.S. business leaders in Atlanta, President Ruto highlighted Kenya's lucrative investment prospects, particularly in renewable energy, housing, manufacturing, agriculture, and ICT sectors. "Kenya means business. We urge international businesses to capitalize on the 60-year-old Kenya-U.S. relationship grounded in shared values of democracy, freedom, and enterprise," he said.

In a notable development, Coca-Cola announced a KSh 23 billion ($175 million) investment to expand its operations in Kenya over the next five years. President Ruto celebrated this milestone during his visit to Coca-Cola's headquarters, emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration for mutual growth.

At the New Vivo Fashion Group Retail Store in Atlanta, President Ruto praised the inclusion of Made in Kenya brands, highlighting the spirit of African businesses supporting each other on the global stage.

Educational partnerships were also a focus of the visit, with President Ruto speaking at Spelman College. A new partnership was signed to enhance student and faculty exchange, joint research, and innovation, aligning with Kenya's Silicon Savannah ambitions.

Healthcare collaboration was further strengthened with President Ruto witnessing the signing of MoUs between the CDC and Kenyan health institutions. These agreements aim to develop a Sustainability Roadmap for Kenya's HIV Programme and operationalize the Kenya National Public Health Institute, showcasing the long-standing U.S.-Kenya partnership in healthcare.

President Ruto also engaged with the Kenyan diaspora at the Cobb Galleria Centre, held discussions with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and toured Tyler Perry Studios, underscoring the multifaceted nature of his visit.

This visit marks a significant step in bolstering Kenya-U.S. relations, with President Ruto advocating for increased investments and collaborative efforts to drive economic growth and development in Kenya.
