CEC Rajiv Kumar Clarifies Postal Ballot Counting Procedure Amid Opposition Demands

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar confirmed on Monday that postal ballot counting will commence first at all counting centers nationwide, abiding by the Conduct of Election Rules.

Addressing a press conference, Kumar stated that after 30 minutes of postal ballot counting, the votes recorded in electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be counted, emphasizing that this method has been consistently followed in elections since 2019.

The announcement came in response to opposition parties who had demanded that postal ballot results should be announced first for transparency and strict adherence to rules. Kumar reiterated that this practice aligns with Rule 54A and will continue unabated, ensuring credibility in the electoral process.
