Eight Cops Booked for Custodial Death in Jhunjhunu

In a shocking turn of events, eight policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), have been booked for allegedly beating a rape-accused to death in Jhunjhunu district, officials reported Monday.

The incident occurred on May 29 under the jurisdiction of the Mandrela police station, resulting in the immediate suspension of the SHO. The accused, identified as Gaurav Sharma from Kotputli, was detained in connection with a rape case. After his arrest from Jaipur on May 24, he was remanded to police custody for five days on court orders.

Unfortunately, Sharma's health reportedly deteriorated while in custody, necessitating his transfer to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical professionals. This triggered a fervent demand from the deceased's family for the registration of a murder case against the involved policemen, which was subsequently granted following high-level discussions among top police and administrative officials.
