A 34-year-old man was found dead Thursday inside a car with burn wounds and blood all over him in southeast Delhi's Kalkaji area, according to police reports.

Senior police officers rushed to the scene following the discovery. A forensic team was called in to gather evidence.

At approximately 9.40 am, the Kalkaji Police Station received a PCR call reporting a dead body with blood splattered inside a parked vehicle, said a senior police officer. CCTV footage revealed that the man, identified as Dhruv Mahajn, arrived at the scene in his car around 3.30 am. Moments later, a large flame erupted inside the car.

The police team found a grey car parked in front of Paharpur Business Centre near Devika Tower in Nehru Place. The car was locked from the inside, prompting officers to break the rear windshield to access the body.

The deceased, approximately aged 35 to 40 years, was found on the steering wheel with burn injuries on his face, thigh, and hands. A strong smell of petrol filled the car, and the steering wheel was partially burnt. His hair was singed, and his T-shirt had traces of soot.

Additionally, a crushed water bottle and used matchsticks were discovered on the front seat. CCTV footage showed Mahajn arriving at around 3.30 am, with a massive flame appearing in the car about seven minutes later, subsiding within a minute.

Initial investigations suggest Mahajn intended to commit suicide by setting himself on fire. However, the car did not fully ignite. He eventually suffered nasal bleeding due to hypoxia stress and asphyxiated to death.

Mahajn's sister informed police that he lived in Bengaluru and was under substantial debt. His body has been sent to AIIMS for post-mortem examination.
