Amritpal Singh Seeks Temporary Release to Take Oath Amidst Controversies

Radical Sikh preacher and MP-elect Amritpal Singh, currently jailed in Assam, is set to seek temporary release from detention to take his oath as a member of parliament, according to his counsel Imaan Singh Khara. Singh, who won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat as an Independent candidate, plans to request his release under Section 15 of the National Security Act (NSA), which deals with temporary releases.

Singh, the chief of 'Waris Punjab De,' is detained alongside nine associates under the same security act. His electoral victory saw him defeating Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira by a substantial margin of 1,97,120 votes. Despite his legal challenges, Singh's parents visited him in jail and continue to support his political journey.

Singh was arrested on April 23 last year in Moga following a prolonged manhunt. He had previously evaded capture by employing various disguises and switching vehicles. His arrest came after a violent incident on February 23 in Amritsar where he and his supporters clashed with police, leading to multiple criminal charges.
