Vietnam and China: Navigating Maritime Disputes

Vietnamese President To Lam emphasized the importance of managing maritime disputes effectively during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Xiong Bo in Hanoi. The dialogue follows concerns raised by Vietnam over the presence of a Chinese survey vessel in its exclusive economic zone.

Vietnamese President To Lam on Tuesday told Chinese ambassador to Hanoi Xiong Bo that it was important that maritime disputes were managed well, his office said in a statement.

Lam said at a meeting in Hanoi that the two countries needed to respect each other's legitimate interests, the statement said.

The meeting comes after Vietnam's foreign ministry said on Thursday it was deeply concerned over the presence of a Chinese survey vessel in its exclusive economic zone.
