The West Bengal government on Wednesday enacted a significant reshuffling of its Land and Revenue Departments, transferring 180 Block Land Records Officers (BLROs) and several revenue officers, according to an official statement.
The decision comes within a week after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure over allegations of malpractices within the department, urging stringent measures to be taken. The transfers aim to combat corruption and enhance accountability.
"A total of 180 BLROs and several revenue officers have been transferred. The BLROs will be relieved from their duties by July 12 and will subsequently join new departments. Directives have already been issued to district administrations," the official said. The Chief Minister's Office had been receiving numerous complaints about government land being encroached upon.
