NATO is setting up a new joint training centre in Poland aimed at training potentially millions of Ukrainian civilians living abroad. This initiative, according to Jacek Siewiera, head of Poland's National Security Bureau, could significantly bolster Ukraine's military efforts against Russia. Siewiera shared these insights with The Associated Press during the NATO summit in Washington.
The centre, announced earlier this year, underscores NATO's firm commitment to Ukraine. Siewiera noted the dual purpose of the centre: equipping NATO member countries with valuable battlefield tactics learned by Ukrainians, and providing a base for training Ukrainian volunteers situated in Europe. This move comes as Eastern European nations are increasingly concerned about Russia's expanding military ambitions.
Siewiera also expressed support for Ukraine's autonomy over how it utilizes weapons supplied by NATO allies, challenging the Biden administration's cautious stance on using U.S.-provided arms inside Russia. He stressed the importance of allowing Ukrainians the flexibility to decide their own military strategies.
