US President Joe Biden on Wednesday urged NATO member countries to bolster their industrial capabilities in response to Russia's increased defence production activities.

Speaking at a NATO summit, Biden highlighted the urgency of modernizing NATO’s deterrence and defence systems, a plan initially set into motion two years ago by the alliance.

''Russia is significantly ramping up its production of weapons, munitions, and vehicles with assistance from countries like China, North Korea, and Iran. We must not allow the alliance to fall behind,'' Biden stated.

The president expressed satisfaction that NATO members are now committed to expanding their industrial base and defence-spending, underscoring that for the first time, every NATO nation is formulating plans for domestic defence production.

''This collective effort will make us more innovative, competitive, and capable of producing critical defence equipment swiftly,'' Biden added.
