In a significant development, nine police personnel, including an officer of SP rank, have been accused of assaulting a sub-inspector and forcibly taking his mobile phone two years ago, an official confirmed on Thursday.

Khagaria Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Kushwaha revealed that the Chitragupt Nagar Police Station registered the case following a May 6 order from the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court.

The FIR was lodged on July 4 based on a complaint by Amalendu Singh, who was stationed at the Mansi Police Station at the time of the incident. Singh alleges he was assaulted by the then SP and other officials on June 26, 2022, who also took his phone and threatened to kill him.

Singh claims he faced backlash after apprehending an impostor posing as a sub-inspector. The sub-inspector alleges pressure from colleagues and seniors to remain silent and was suspended after being accused in a fake corruption case.

After his complaint stalled, Singh approached the CJM's court, which found prima facie evidence warranting an investigation and directed the police to proceed.

In addition to the former SP, the FIR names the then deputy SP, the SHO of the Sadar Police Station, and other officials of inspector and sub-inspector rank stationed in Khagaria.
