The Indian government has mandated that satellite television broadcasters obtain authorisation from the Indian space regulator, IN-SPACe, for the use of non-Indian satellites, starting April 1, 2025.
In May, IN-SPACe released Norms, Guidelines and Procedures (NGP) under the Indian Space Policy-2023, specifying that only IN-SPACe authorised non-Indian satellites can offer services in India.
Any existing arrangements with non-Indian satellite operators will remain valid until March 31, 2025. Post this date, only authorised satellites can provide space-based communication and broadcast services within the country.
