Disney Workers Vote for Potential Strike Amid Contract Negotiations
Thousands of Disney workers in California have voted to authorize a potential strike due to stalled contract negotiations. The overwhelming vote, nearly 99%, represents 14,000 employees under four unions. If no agreement is reached, union leaders may call a strike. Talks resume Monday.
Thousands of Disney workers in California have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a potential strike as contract negotiations with the company drag on. The vote, favoring a strike authorization by nearly 99 per cent, was cast by a coalition of four unions representing 14,000 employees across various roles at Disney's theme parks and resorts.
Union leaders now have the leverage to call a strike if negotiations for a new contract deal continue to stall. Talks between the union representatives and Disney's management are set to resume on Monday, with key issues like wage increases, safety measures, attendance policies, and other benefits on the table.
Discussions have been ongoing since April, but workers stress the need for significant improvements in their working conditions and compensation as motivation for the strong support for a potential strike.
