Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has petitioned the Supreme Court against directives from the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments, mandating that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route must display the names of their owners.

Moitra's plea contends that such mandates exacerbate community tensions and are a pretext for revealing personal and religious identities, thus fostering an economic boycott against Muslim shopkeepers.

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S V N Bhatti is expected to hear the petition, which is supported by the NGO Association of Protection of Civil Rights, on Monday.
