A Dalit sanitary worker, Rohit Valmiki, has alleged that he was thrashed by police personnel in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, for overtaking their vehicles. Valmiki claimed he was abused and beaten after being taken to the police station. An official investigation is underway.

Authorities in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, have launched an investigation after a Dalit sanitary worker, Rohit Valmiki, alleged he was beaten by police personnel for overtaking their official vehicles.

Valmiki claims he overtook vehicles belonging to police and electricity department personnel on July 21, when he was heading home on his motorcycle.

According to Valmiki, policemen accused him of reckless driving, verbally abused him, and later thrashed him at the police station. His brother confirmed these claims.

Superintendent of Police Agam Jain announced that the Sub Divisional Officer of Police is handling the probe, and strict action will follow after statements from all concerned individuals are recorded.
