The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Kangana Ranaut, the BJP Lok Sabha member from Mandi, regarding a petition contesting her election based on allegedly wrongful rejection of nomination papers.

Justice Jyotsna Rewal has instructed Ranaut to respond by August 21.

Kangana Ranaut secured her seat by defeating Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh with a margin of 74,755 votes, garnering 5,37,002 votes against Singh's 4,62,267 votes.

The petitioner, Layak Ram Negi, argues that his disqualification by the returning officer was unjust, as his nomination papers were incorrectly rejected despite fulfilling the necessary conditions.

Negi, a former forest department employee, claims the rejection of his nomination papers prevented a fair contest, thereby seeking to invalidate the election result.
