Florentina Iusco Banned from Paris Olympics After Positive Doping Test

Romanian athlete Florentina Iusco has been barred from competing in the Paris Olympics after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) successfully appealed her case. The 28-year-old long and triple jumper tested positive for the banned diuretic furosemide in April 2023.

Both her A and B samples confirmed the presence of the substance, resulting in a rule violation. Although Romania's National Anti-Doping Organisation only issued a reprimand without a period of ineligibility, WADA contested this decision, leading the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to review the case.

The CAS found that Iusco had not met the required standards for a finding of 'no significant fault or negligence' and imposed a two-year ban, backdated to February 1. All of her results from April 2023 have been nullified. Originally, WADA had sought the ban to commence from the CAS ruling date. The Paris Athletics events are set to begin on August 1.
