Battle Over Flamin' Hot Cheetos: Who's the Real Inventor?

A legal battle is brewing over the origin of the iconic Flamin' Hot Cheetos. Richard Montanez, an ex-PepsiCo executive, is suing the company, alleging it derailed his career by challenging his claim to have invented the beloved snack.

Montanez started his journey with PepsiCo as a janitor in 1977. After an accidental unflavored batch of Cheetos arose, he spiced them with chili powder, inspired by Mexican street corn, winning the approval of PepsiCo's CEO in 1991. From there, Flamin' Hot Cheetos hit the shelves in 1992, propelling his career.

Despite becoming a key figure in PepsiCo, Montanez alleges the company later undermined his contributions, impacting his post-retirement ventures. He is seeking damages for alleged discrimination, fraud, and defamation.
