In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the Enforcement Directorate's plea challenging the bail granted to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.
Speaking to reporters, Soren highlighted the importance of the rule of law and denounced attempts to damage his and his family's reputation. 'I was incarcerated as if I had absconded with the state's assets... Blame was systematically laid upon the Soren family,' he stated.
Soren expressed gratitude towards the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, for upholding the Jharkhand High Court's June 28 decision to grant him bail. He criticized efforts aimed at silencing advocates for marginalized communities, pointing out the significant time lost during his five-month imprisonment that could have been used for governance and public service. His wife, Kalpana, also welcomed the court's decision, calling it a victory for truth and justice.
