Pensioners to Protest for Minimum Monthly Pension at Jantar Mantar

The EPS-95 National Agitation Committee will protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding a minimum monthly pension of Rs 7,500. The government has not addressed their demand over the past eight years. Pensioners currently receive very low pensions, which is insufficient for survival. Support from political parties is being sought.

The EPS-95 National Agitation Committee announced on Monday that its members will protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday to demand a minimum monthly pension of Rs 7,500.

The committee stated that around 7.8 million pensioners have been seeking an increase in the minimum pension for the last eight years, but the government has not responded to their demands. As a result, a decisive protest is planned at Jantar Mantar on July 31.

According to Ashok Raut, president of the committee, pensioners currently receive an average monthly pension of just Rs 1,450, with 3.6 million surviving on less than Rs 1,000 per month. He emphasized that their struggle will continue until their demands are met. Additionally, the committee's national general secretary, Virendra Singh, urged all political parties to fulfill their responsibility to ensure a minimum pension of Rs 7,500 per month, along with dearness allowance and free medical care.
