President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who has strengthened Manila's long-standing alliance with Washington, stressed the importance of U.S. military presence for stability and peace in Asia. Recent agreements between the Philippines and China seek to reduce confrontations, but tensions remain high.
Philippine Ambassador to the U.S., Jose Manuel Romualdez, indicated ongoing efforts to enhance territorial defense through assistance from the U.S. and other allies. The allocation includes funds for navy equipment and improvements to Philippine military bases. Discussions also continue on a proposed military pact for advanced intelligence and sophisticated weaponry.
