Government Reveals Over 17,000 Vacant Posts in Consumer Affairs Ministry
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has disclosed that 17,625 posts remain unfilled, including those at affiliated institutions and agencies, as per a statement to Parliament. Minister Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya detailed the numbers and specified that no retiree has been re-employed in the last five years.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has revealed that as many as 17,625 positions remain vacant, including roles at various institutions, agencies, and autonomous bodies under its jurisdiction.
In a written response to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya outlined the workforce statistics from 2014 to 2024. She noted that in 2014, the Ministry had 45,915 permanent posts and 19 temporary posts. By 2024, these numbers had slightly increased to 48,555 permanent posts and decreased to 8 temporary posts.
Importantly, Bambhaniya confirmed that no personnel have been re-employed post-retirement over the past five years. The revelation points to a significant number of positions that need to be filled to ensure the Ministry's effective functioning.
