A local court on Wednesday sentenced two men, including a Polish national, to prison for smuggling drugs, the police confirmed.

Polish national Patryk Dziwinski received a five-year prison term and was fined Rs 90,000. Kazi, a native of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined Rs 2 lakh.

Dziwinski was arrested in May 2019 with 345 grams of opium. Kazi initially evaded capture but was later arrested after dumping 4.3 kg of drugs.

Due to Dziwinski's inability to produce a valid passport and visa, an FIR was registered against both at DLF Phase 1 police station.

Upon completing the investigation, police filed a charge sheet, leading to the conviction by Additional District and Sessions Judge Gagan Geet Kaur.

The court handed Dziwinski a five-year prison term and imposed a fine of Rs 90,000. Kazi received a 12-year jail sentence and was fined Rs 2 lakh, according to a police spokesperson.
