North Korea is gearing up to revive nuclear negotiations with the United States if Donald Trump secures re-election, revealed Ri Il Gyu, a senior North Korean diplomat who recently defected to South Korea, in an exclusive interview with Reuters.
Ri disclosed that North Korea has singled out Russia, the U.S., and Japan as its main foreign policy focal points. The strategy is built around lifting sanctions, removing the terrorist designation, and seeking economic aid, contingent on Trump's victory.
Ri also criticized Kim Jong Un's diplomatic strategies, attributing past failures to inexperienced military advisors. He emphasized the diplomatic ministry's potential role in future talks and painted a bleak picture of North Korea's current economic and social conditions, further strained by the COVID-19 pandemic.
