UK to Empower Police Against Violent Protesters After Tragic Stabbing
Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced measures to enable UK police forces to crack down on violent protesters. This move follows two nights of unrest in England triggered by a deadly stabbing at a children's dance class. Far-right activists attempted to exploit the tragedy to incite anger against immigrants and Muslims.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Thursday that new measures will enable police forces to work across the UK to crack down on violent protesters. This follows two nights of unrest across England after a gruesome stabbing incident.
Starmer condemned the violence, blaming a "tiny mindless minority" and vowed, "We will put a stop to it." The clashes occurred as mobs reacted to a fatal stabbing at a children's dance class, though mass stabbings remain rare in the UK.
Far-right groups have exploited the incident to fuel anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiments. However, authorities clarified that the suspect, 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, is not an immigrant, and his religion has not been disclosed. Judge Andrew Menary lifted reporting restrictions on Rudakubana's identity to prevent misinformation.
