Crackdown on Chinese Manjha: 79 Arrests in 20 Days

In Delhi, 79 people have been arrested over the last 20 days for selling banned Chinese manjha, which has caused multiple injuries and fatalities. The Delhi Police have registered 78 FIRs and are working diligently to tackle the distribution of these hazardous kite strings, banned since 2017.

In a stringent operation, the Delhi Police have arrested 79 individuals over the last 20 days for selling the banned Chinese manjha, a glass-coated synthetic string used in kite flying that has been linked to multiple injuries and fatalities.

According to the authorities, 78 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered in this regard. Senior police officers have directed strict action, including the registration of FIRs and the arrest of those involved in distributing or stocking these hazardous strings. Efforts are round the clock to curb their sale.

Highlighting the gravity of the issue, a recent tragedy involved a seven-year-old girl who died after her throat was slit by a stray Chinese manjha in West Delhi's Pashchim Vihar. This has led to a concerted crackdown with numerous arrests across various districts of the city, aligning with the 2017 ban imposed to safeguard humans, animals, and the environment.
