Nine fishermen were rescued by the Odisha Fisheries Department with support from the Indian Coast Guard after their boat became stranded near the Mahanadi River mouth for over two hours on Friday, according to police reports. All individuals were safely evacuated from the tidal wave at the river mouth, where the Mahanadi converges with the Bay of Bengal near Paradip, as stated by officials from the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office.
The SRC had earlier directed the Fisheries & Animal Resource Development Department and the Paradip Coast Guard to undertake immediate action for the fishermen's safe return. The distressed boat was located near Nehru Bungalow in Jagatsinghpur district's port town.
