Amid growing tensions, AAP leaders and workers on Saturday staged a protest near Raj Niwas, demanding the resignation of Lt Governor V K Saxena following the tragic deaths of a woman and her son, who fell into a flooded drain in east Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleges that responsibility lies with the Lt Governor-headed DDA, while Raj Niwas contends that the ill-fated drain was under the jurisdiction of the AAP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar described the incident as 'murder' and called for charges to be pressed against those responsible.
The victims, 22-year-old Tanuja and her three-year-old son Priyansh, drowned after slipping into a drain in Khoda Colony, Ghazipur. Protests ensued with demonstrators demanding the Lt Governor's resignation. However, the LG office dismissed AAP's claims, accusing its leaders of spreading false and misleading information. The BJP also criticized AAP for politicizing the tragedy.
