Lebanon is striving to prevent a full-scale war in the Middle East following the Israeli assassination of a prominent Hezbollah commander in Beirut, Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib stated on Tuesday.

Regional tensions have markedly increased this past week after the assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran and an Israeli airstrike in Beirut's suburbs that killed high-ranking Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. Hezbollah has indicated its intention to respond cautiously and strategically.

Since Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, which sparked the ongoing Gaza conflict, Israel and Hezbollah have engaged in mutual hostilities.
