Mizoram Cabinet Approves Key Amendment Bills and Greenfield Airport Construction
The Mizoram cabinet has approved an amendment bill to strengthen the state’s anti-corruption ombudsman, Lokayukta, and other significant legislative proposals. Additionally, the cabinet has sanctioned the construction of a greenfield airport. These proposals will be presented in the assembly during a session on August 20-21.

The Mizoram cabinet on Friday approved an amendment bill aimed at strengthening the Lokayukta, the state's anti-corruption watchdog established in 2018, according to an official statement. The council of ministers, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, thoroughly discussed and approved the Mizoram Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill 2024.
The amendment bill is expected to be presented in the state assembly during a special two-day session scheduled for August 20 and August 21, the official added.
In addition, the cabinet has also given the green light for the construction of a greenfield airport in the southern part of the state. Currently, Mizoram operates a single airport in Lengpui, located approximately 31 kilometers from the capital, Aizawl. Further, the cabinet approved several other significant legislative measures, including the Mizoram State Higher Education Council Rules 2024, the Mizoram Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill 2024, and the draft of the Mizoram Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) (Amendment) Rules 2024.
