Global Leaders Push for Urgent Gaza Ceasefire Amid Rising Tensions
President Joe Biden and leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK discuss de-escalating Middle East tensions and a Gaza ceasefire. They support renewal of ceasefire talks involving the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt. Recent attacks have heightened the risk of a larger Middle East conflict, particularly involving Iran.
President Joe Biden and leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK held discussions on Monday to address escalating tensions in the Middle East and to push for a Gaza ceasefire, according to the White House.
In a joint statement released on Monday, the leaders backed calls from the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt to renew ceasefire negotiations quickly. Biden earlier proposed a three-phase ceasefire plan on May 31.
The leaders emphasized that there is no time to lose and urged Iran to cease military threats against Israel, while advocating for aid distribution in Gaza. Increasing tensions have heightened the risk of broader Middle East conflict.
